If you are outside of range of the car and press the key fob >1000 times it will get out of sync. But I would not guarantee it. This occurs when you take longer than 1 minute changing the battery, or if you hit the buttons more than 1000 times when it is out of range of the car. Now for key 2, it will not unlock/lock my car but I know I can trust it to always start my car.
